UCLA QIW Students at the Capitol
The UCLA Quarter in Washington Program sends a minimum of 31 UCLA undergraduates to study at UCDC in Washington each fall, winter, and spring quarter. UCLA is committed to admitting as many qualified students to the program as space permits at the UC Washington Center. The program offers a combination of internships, coursework relevant to Washington, DC, and the chance to make life-long career connections at the national level.
Program Overview & Required Courses
- Offered fall, winter and spring quarters
- Earn 12 upper division UCLA units
- Intern 3-4 days per week
Starting Fall 2025, the UCLA Quarter in Washington (QiW) program will streamline its course requirements.
New Structure
- Students will now complete two in-person UCDC courses:
- M194DC (4 units, graded) – Credit through UCLA Political Science, History, or Sociology
- CESC 155DC (8 units, graded)
→ Total: 12 graded units
- What’s Changing:
- Replaces previous UCLA remote internship courses (195CE and M195DC)
- Course Highlights:
- M194DC: Taught by UCDC faculty; focuses on key DC topics (e.g. Congress, foreign policy, Supreme Court)
- CESC 155DC: Tied to your internship; integrates academic learning with real-world experience and social justice themes
- Internship Requirement:
- All students must secure a 24–32 hour/week internship before the quarter begins
Eligibility
- All majors welcome
- Minimum 3.0 UCLA GPA
- At least sophomore standing (Juniors and Seniors have priority)
- J-1 Visa students may participate
- F-1 Visa students cannot participate
