OVERVIEW

The “Engaging LA” Scholarship provides $2,000 awards to support UCLA students participating in community-engaged learning. This scholarship is designed to enhance access to experiential education, deepen students’ understanding of community issues, and support civic and professional development while offsetting potential financial barriers to participation.

Awardee responsibilities include:

    • All scholarship recipients are required to complete the CESC 50XP: Engaging Los Angeles course during the summer session A (10-week). 
    • Recipients of scholarships are required to submit a short post-internship reflection of their experience along with a short video and photo.
      • The reflection will address how the community engagement learning experience helped you grow professionally and/or academically.
      • Students who receive awards from donor-funded scholarships will be asked to write a thank-you note to the award benefactor.
      • The materials submitted will be used as testimonials for fundraising purposes.
    • Award recipients may also be invited to participate in Center for Community Engagement events or programs during the academic year in order to share about their community engagement experiences.

ELIGIBILITY

In order to be eligible for the award, UCLA students must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Good Academic Standing

    Be currently enrolled at UCLA and in good academic standing

  • Enrolled into the CESC 50XP Summer Course

    • Be enrolled in the Summer 2026 course CESC 50XP: Engaging Los Angeles, offered
      during Summer Session A10 (June 22 – August 28, 2026)

  • Available to volunteer each week

    Be able to commit to volunteering at a community organization for at least 3-4 hours per
    week throughout the duration of the course

  1. Why are you interested in enrolling in CESC 50XP: Engaging Los Angeles?
  2. What community issues are you most interested in exploring through this course?
  3. Describe any previous community engagement, volunteer, or service experience (if
    applicable).
  4. How will this scholarship support your ability to participate in this course and complete
    the community engagement requirement?
