The Center for Community Engagement connects UCLA undergraduates with the diverse communities of Los Angeles through meaningful, interdisciplinary work that emphasizes academic excellence within undergraduate education.

Whether you are a prospective Bruin or a current UCLA student (including transfer students!), you’re in the right place. Below is an overview of all the community engagement student opportunities that we offer and when they might be available to you during your UCLA journey. Community-Engaged Courses

Students enroll in an academic credit-bearing course that connects curriculum with meaningful work in Los Angeles. There are opportunities for direct service and research. Look for the XP suffix in UCLA’s course catalog and schedule of classes! Some community-engaged courses also satisfy GE, writing, diversity education, and other graduation requirements!

Community Engagement & Social Change Minor

The Community Engagement & Social Change (CESC) minor is an interdisciplinary program that creates a unique opportunity for students to examine strategies for social change through sustained engagement in Los Angeles and beyond. It complements any major.

Study Away Programs

Quarter-long “study away” programs where students from a wide range of majors can gain state and national level perspectives through coursework and internships, not to mention career connections.

AmeriCorps Programs

1-year service programs helping various communities tackle their toughest challenges.

JusticeCorps members assist self-represented litigants who cannot afford to hire an attorney.
Jumpstart members work in under-resourced preschool classrooms to promote early literacy.

Scholarships

Scholarship opportunities are available to students actively participating in community-engaged learning, research, or work experiences.

The Alex White Internship Scholarship provides support for UCLA students to gain valuable career experience through summer internships.
Astin Community Engaged Scholars engage in research that will support social justice movements.
Changemaker Scholars mentor youth civic activists in their pursuit of social change.
Data Justice Scholars participate in collectively analyzing data sources useful for research on social justice issues in LA.
Summer Internship Scholarship increases student access to experiential learning, supports career preparation, and helps offset financial hardships associated with an unpaid summer internship.

195CE Internship Courses

Students earn upper-division academic credit for internship work with an off-campus corporate, non-profit, or government agency.
